Hence why all the ways they include allusions to slavery aren't too in-your-face - Triangular Trade, Aztec/Chinese Builders (and builders in general), Chichen Itza's completion quote, these are all abstracted enough that if you don't want to dwell on the thought of real-world historical slavery, you don't have to. I don't think them not including slavery as a mechanic isn't so much about them being worried they'll offend people, but rather them not wanting people to not buy or stop playing their game because it's not fun for a large amount of players to have to remember and think about slavery while playing the game. And under both of these definitions, I feel like Civ 6 is absolutely not "too PC".

Also "political correctness" is often talked about as if it specifically means "trying way too hard not to offend lefties/progressives/wokescolds", when I think it could equally be used to mean "trying way too hard not to offend right-wingers/conservatives". But defining it instead as "going too far to avoid offending anyone", I think that you'd have to have a wildly skewed vision of the world to think Civ 6 is PC.Īs many, including William of Normandy have pointed out, there's absolutely no way you could ever avoid offending everyone, so I feel like trying to call things "too PC" is often pretty meaningless, or rather it actually means "too willing to cater to other people's political beliefs, and not willing enough to cater to mine". It was even in Civ IV IIRC.ĭefining "political correctness" as "trying not to offend particular demographics/societal groups", yeah I think I'd say Civ 6 is PC.

It is the only reason I wrote about PC in the other Thread, which tbh isn't a big Issue for me, but still one that I would like to have in a game like Civ (because I like realistic Gameplay). Combine that with Ideologies and World Congress we would have a neat Slavery Systeme. The Game could have implemented Slavery in the Ancient Era, and with certain Policies/Governments a Civ could be prehibited to use Slaves, and with advancing Technology, it could replace their Productivity with other productive (but expensive) alternatives. I just think that a History based Game should also contain a Slavery Systeme. I'm not a Fan of Slavery, but of realism. Slavery is an important part of Human History that no one can deny. So, making some Policies that can be seen as a Slavery representative isn't enough for me. And Production is the main Source to City/Infrustructure Management in the Early and Mid Eras. I mean how can a Civ build a Pyramid without Slaves? you would have to spend a Mountain of Gold to pay normal People to do all that tiring work. Except They require Amenity, Slaves don't do that. That's Slavery, but subtly hidden as normal Workers. We are basically using Citizens and Builders to manage a City. I actually meant just one thing that I wish that it was part of the game, and it's not about Civs (make any controverse leader as alt Leader for every Civ, it wouldn't be a problem for me): Slavery. I didn't say (in the other thread) that the game is too PC.

I, like Alexander's Hetaroi, I misunderstood it as PC aka Portable/Desktop Computer.
